Obituary for Stanley Avon "Steamer" Ames
Stanley Avon Ames, son of the late Ernest Stanley Ames and Shirley Parker Ames Boldin, was born March 27, 1957 in Accomack County, Virginia. Stanley transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.
Stanley attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Boston, Virginia while growing up, but accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was baptized at Good Samaritan Ministries in Richmond, Virginia in the early nineties. Stanley graduated from Central High School in Painter, Virginia. He later attended Eastern Shore Community College completing the Machine Shop program. Stanley left the Eastern Shore and moved to Richmond, Virginia to be near his sister.
Stanley moved back to the Eastern Shore in 2015 to spend time with his brother, Gerry Ames, who preceded him in death on December 31, 2017 and this reconnected with family and friends. Even through his trials and tribulations, Stanley had an immeasurable love for his family who embraced him unconditionally. He was a gifted auto mechanic that touched many lives near and far with his skills. He loved animals, listening to old school music, and just took life as it came. He had a happy, upbeat, charming personality and could be the life of the party along with being quick to help anyone in need.
Stanley leaves to cherish his memory one devoted sister, Shirley “Diane” Ames Harmon of Richmond, VA; three loving daughters, Jeneisha Burney (Cory) of Bristol, CT, Angie Hall of Hertford, NC, and Brittany Wynder of Virginia Beach, VA; nine grandchildren, Kaniya Burney, Cory Burney, Khalil Burney, all of Bristol, CT, Tre’-Quan Jackson of Radford, VA, Jody Wright of San Diego, CA, Angel Hall of Herford, NC, Jayden Redd, Christopher Redd, and Maya Mills, all of Virginia Beach, VA; two great-grandchildren, Javon Connolly and Amora Connolly, both of Bristol, CT; three aunts, Doretha Ashby of Boston, VA, Frances Washington of Savageville, VA, and Evetta Foster of Richmond, VA; two uncles, Harold (whom he had a special relationship with) and Calvin Parker, both of Yonkers, NY; six nieces, Edmanda “Mandy” Harmon of Richmond, VA, LaKeisha Williams (Joseph) of Charleston, SC, Shawan Harmon of Richmond, VA, Alethea Brooks (Aaron) of Charleston, SC, Tynetta Reid, and Zaleah Walker, both of Nassawadox, VA; four great-nieces; four great- nephews; one sister-in-law; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
