Obituary for Viola "Tilley" Williams (Handy)

Viola Handy Williams, beloved daughter of the late John Henry Ayres and Ann Handy, was born on October 1, 1961 in Nassawadox, Virginia. She departed this life on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia, surrounded by her family.

“Tilley,” as she was lovingly nicknamed by her brothers, was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. She was a dedicated employee at Arcadia Nursing Center as an assistant Supervisor of Housekeeping, until its closing.

At an early age, Viola began worshipping at Macedonia Baptist Church in Bloxom, Virginia, where she sang on the Women’s Choir. As a teen, she met her soulmate, Gregory Williams and forged a wonderful relationship that would last for forty-three years.

Tilley, loved to play cards, go to bingo and watch game shows. Her favorite games shows were The Price is Right, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune. Tilley also loved to spend time with her family. She was a kind, caring, and compassionate person who was always worried more about others than herself. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She will be truly missed.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her husband, Gregory T. Williams, Sr.; daughters, Lashonda Handy (Jacques) and Shacana Handy (James); sons, Tanhia Handy (Christina) and Gregory T.
