Obituary for William Freddie Trader

William Freddie Trader was born on April 25, 1934 to the late Robert and Celia Trader in Horntown, Virginia. He was the third of six children. After suffering a long illness, he departed this life and was called home on December 20, 2021.

William received his formal education in the Accomack County Public School system. He also accepted Christ at an early age at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Horntown, Virginia. In 1952, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he became a devoted member of 2nd Mount Zion Baptist Church. He diligently served and worshipped Christ.

William met Marie Asber in 1953. She affectionately called him “Bill.” On September 3, 1955, they were joined in holy matrimony. In later years, their union was blessed with an adopted daughter, Gwendolyn Trader. At the age of three, she became and remained the joy of their lives.

William was employed by Lansdown Steel Company until its closing. He later gained employment at the Philadelphia Electric Company, from which he retired in 2000. Upon his return to Horntown, William renewed his membership at Tabernacle Baptist Church. He worshipped there until his health would not allow him to attend.

William was loved and cared for by his wife, Marie. They did all that they could do to keep each other smiling and happy. They weren’t just husband and wife, they were best friends. They truly enjoyed each other’s company, love and laughter. This was evident in the way their loved shined for all to see and through the way they lived their lives together.

William had a passion for race cars. They were his specialty. He was very skilled and knowledgeable in drag racing. William often shared life lessons with individuals. He would always advise, “Never give away your last nickel.” He really loved to be around family and friends, where there were always plenty of smiles and laughter to be shared. William always made time for all of those he encountered.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn Trader; four brothers, Arthur “Buck” Trader, Leroy Trader, Robert “Woostie” Trader, Jr., and Franklin “Butch” Trader; and two sisters, Lois Estella Holden and Bernice Stanley.

Williams leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted wife of sixty-six years, Marie Trader; two grandchildren, Sabrina Trader and Marcus (Makyda) Green; three great-grandchildren, Sha’Nya Marshall, Shannon Marshall, Jr., and Elias Trader; sister, Gladys (Thomas) Collins, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
